On Tuesday, August 18, ten UFC hopefuls will compete in the so-called Ultimate Job Interview, UFC President Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series (DWCS).

This week’s edition of the show, which pits regional prospects against one another on a quick-paced Tuesday night event and sees impressive performers go on to be signed to the UFC by White, features five matchups with fighters from promotions like Combate Americas, LFA, and CES, among others.

The full DWCS: Reyna vs. Cosce fight card is listed below:

  • Orion Cocse (6-0) vs. Matt Dixon (9-0) – welterweight bout
  • Josh Parisian (12-3) vs. Chad Johnson (6-1) – heavyweight bout
  • Kevin Syler (10-0) vs. Kenny Cross (10-3) – lightweight bout

MMA-Prospects.com’s staff writers have put together their informed predictions on how these Contender Series fights will play out, including the prediction they feel most confident in, and why.

Shawn Bitter, Contributor

Victor Reyna, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kenny Cross.

“My most confident is Matt Dixon,” wrote Bitter. “I believe Dixon is one of the better welterweight prospects, where Cosce isn’t nearly ready for this level of competition.”

Joe McDonagh, Contributor

Victor Reyna, Hilarie Rose, Matt Dixon, Chad Johnson, and Kenny Cross.

“Most confident: Dixon. Matt Dixon has shown he can perform on bigger stages (LFA 83) and has a ton of experience,” wrote McDonagh. “[Dixon has] shown he can drop anyone, or go the distance and not be bothered by opponents that won’t fall.”

Billy Nayden, Contributor

Louis Cosce, Hilarie Rose, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kevin Syler.

“Most confident: Parisian, because I think he’s been in there with veterans like Tony Lopez and knows what the big stage is like,” wrote Nayden. “Think experience plays a big factor on DWCS.”

Joseph Shaw, Contributor

Louis Cosce, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kevin Syler.

“Most confident: Syler, because I think he’s fairly unknown fighter and fighters like from a small nation normally have motivation and perform on the night,” wrote Shaw.

Ryan Fortune, Contributor

Victor Reyna, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kenny Cross.

“Most Confident: Victor Reyna,” wrote Fortune. “Reyna has fought the better competition and has fought UFC welterweights in Kevin Holland, Daniel Rodriguez, and Miguel Baeza, while Cosce’s opponents have a combined record of 34-61 at the time he fought them. Cosce has also never been out of the first round before, whereas Reyna has been all three rounds multiple times.”

Kristen King, Contributor

Victor Reyna, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kevin Syler.

“Most Confident: Kevin Syler has been on the Contender Series before and put on a pretty dominant performance that was contract-worthy,” wrote King. “I expect him to do the same here against Cross, especially if he focuses on getting the fight to the ground.”

Davidson Baker, Contributor

Victor Reyna, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kevin Syler.

“Most Confident: Kevin Syler. While Kenny Cross’s wild and erratic style should aid him to a certain extent against Syler, all 3 of Cross’s pro defeats have come by submission and that spells bad news against a specialist such as the Bolivian,” wrote Baker.

Michael Fiedel, Editor

Victor Reyna, Cheyanne Buys, Matt Dixon, Josh Parisian, and Kevin Syler.

“My most confident prediction is a win for Matt Dixon, as I believe the quality of opposition he has faced to date is far tougher than that of his opponent’s. I think Dixon’s ability to dictate where the fight takes place and his composure will help him walk out of the APEX with a win.”
