The awaited return of Xtreme Fighting Championships took place on Nov. 11, as the promotion presented XFC 43, its first event in over four years, at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA. It also marked the XFC’s debut on NBC Sports Network.

In the main event, Andre Soukhamthath, in his first fight since his departure from the UFC, came out victorious in a toughly-contested bantamweight battle with Guilherme Faria.

While the first round proved to be more a feeling-out process, Faria landed the better punches and utilized his leg kicks. Faria would push his control by taking Soukhamthath down in the second, but Soukhamthath started to gain momentum by working his jab.

Both swung away in the third, with Faria busting open Soukhamthath slightly and landing to the body, but the bout went to the judges. One judge bizarrely scored all three rounds for Faria, while the other two gave 29-28 scores, and the win, to Soukhamthath.

In the co-main event, Danielle Taylor came out on top over women’s MMA pioneer Jessica Aguilar in a striking clinic. While Aguilar did better with her boxing and clinching in the first, Taylor got busy in the later rounds, busting open Aguilar’s nose in the second and taking Aguilar down. After a close third round, two judges scored the bout in Taylor’s favor.

The night, which featured plenty of exciting finishes, also featured several fights as part of tournaments to determine the XFC lightweight and welterweight champions.

Contender Series veteran Kenny Cross scored a vicious knockout, and UFC veteran and Titan FC champion Kurt Holobaugh needed just 27 seconds to get back into the win column.

In addition, two “Young Guns” bouts, featuring talents just starting off their professional MMA careers, took place.

The bantamweight main event between Soukhamthath and Faria earned Fight of the Night honors, while the Knockout of the Night bonus went to Bobby Nash and Submission of the Night went to Ryan Dickson, both prelim fighters who impressed by winning their fights in the first round.

The promotion’s next event, XFC 44, will take place in February 2021.
