It has been said that the best ‘base’ discipline for MMA is wrestling. If that is truly the case, then Pennsylvania State University alumnus Bo Nickal (0-0) is certainly one of the most exciting prospects in the sport.

A four-time All-American and three-time NCAA Division I champion, it is hard to overstate Nickal’s wrestling accolades. He is also an Olympic hopeful, vying to compete in Tokyo in the delayed 2020 Olympic Games.

After the Olympics, however, Nickal’s plans are in MMA. He trains out of the illustrious American Top Team alongside UFC stars in Jorge Masvidal — whom he helped prepare for champion Kamaru Usman —Dustin Poirier, and many others. He has also signed with management firm First Round Management, which manages the likes of Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, and others.

Nickal is as yet unsigned, but major promotions are likely to line up around the block for the Hodge Trophy winner’s services. Bellator, in particular, has been known to sign high-caliber wrestlers early in their MMA careers (see: Tyree and Tyrell Fortune, Romero Cotton, Ed Ruth, and Aaron Pico, etc.).
