Lupita Godinez comes into the UFC with only a 5-0 record but a strong resume already. The Mexican-born fighter is best known for her LFA Strawweight Championship win last October. She took the title from “Dana White’s Contender Series” alum Vanessa Demopoulos in what was an all-out war. Outside the LFA title, Godinez also won a title in Canada for the BTC promotion. Godinez is welcoming Jessica Penne back to the cage for the first time in almost four years.

What makes Godinez different is her ability to take a shot to give one. That’s not saying she takes a lot of damage, because her output and accuracy have been so much better than her opponents; of all the shots Godinez has taken on the jaw, she hasn’t been fazed nor shaken, as her toughness has prevailed. Godinez is solely a striker who really hasn’t used wrestling. The left hook is money from “Loopy.” It’s her best weapon. Godinez is someone that’s gonna stay in your face throwing her hands, staying active, and throwing to the body perfectly. Godinez, although she doesn’t have a stoppage by KO/TKO, she does indeed have some pop behind her hands. She is more modeled as a pressure striker who will batter women en-route to a decision.

Godinez is such an impressive prospect. She looked solid throughout her amateur career, but she started to make a splash when she turned professional in 2018. Since then, Godinez has won all five of her fights and earned a championship along the way under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner. I think what impresses me the most about Godinez is her boxing. She is precise, yet powerful and has no problem pressuring her opponents for as long as the fight goes on. Godinez has solid takedown defense and overall decent wrestling, so I have no worries about her as it relates to that department. Godinez is definitely one to watch out for in the strawweight division.

I’m torn on Godinez. Everything I’ve heard about her say that she was a great signing and is a great prospect. Then you look at her record and all the other things and you wonder if this is a hype machine. I see a fighter that marches forward with a variety of kicks and punches and can get the occasional takedown. Most of the questions I have are about the level of competition. Her notable wins are over Vanessa Demopoulos (6-3) and Lindsay Garbatt (8-7-2). She was 3-4-1 as an amateur.
